Holy Month of Ramadan 1444 AH (2023) "Remembrance of Almighty Allah between us"

Ramadan is a blessed time in which we can draw closer to Allah and to our faith through our understanding of the Quranic teachings, our commitment to doing what is right, and our deep appreciation of Allah’s mercy.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) has encouraged his followers to be mindful of Allah’s blessing on this month. In the Holy Quran, it is written: “O you who believe, fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, so that you may learn self-restraint.” (2:183). Ramadan is not only a period for contemplation and reflection, but it is also a great time to deepen our love and understanding for Allah and for His mercy. As Muslims, we must strive to understand how Allah’s mercy and blessing can be manifested through fasting and obeying God’s commands.

More significantly, Ramadan is a month of guidance for humanity and it is a period when Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and his followers preached about the Qur'an and practiced their devotion to Allah. The understanding of this great book should help us to become more aware of the importance of doing what is right and of avoiding what is wrong. When we keep our minds and our heart engaged in the practices of God and His commandments, we will be able to benefit from the blessings that Allah is offering to us. We will be able to draw strength and courage from the example of the Prophet (SAW) and will be better able to spread the message of Islam to those around us in a positive and sincere manner.

Through our increased understanding of the Quran, generous hospitality, and strong relationships with those around us, we can manifest the love of Allah in our lives. We can also benefit from all the spiritual blessings this month has to offer.

Moreover, Ramadan is a time when our prayers are more greatly answered. This is because Allah is more merciful during Ramadan and his response to our supplication is more sincere. Therefore, we should not take for granted this time of Allah’s mercy; instead, we should fully and actively participate in this month by dedicating our time to prayers, reciting the Quran, and doing acts of worship.

We should also use this month to become more hospitable and accommodating to others. As Ramadan reminds us of the importance of performing good deeds, we must be sure to show kindness to those who may be struggling during this month, such as orphans or the sick and the needy. Similarly, Ramadan is a good time to strengthen our bond with family and friends, treating each other with love and respect.

In conclusion, Ramadan is a month of immense blessings for humanity and a great reason for us to strengthen and deepen our devotion to Allah. Therefore, we should use this month to our utmost benefit, by praying more regularly, reading the Quran, performing good deeds, and being kind to others. In doing so, we can avail ourselves of Allah’s immense blessings and reap the rewards of entering this sacred month with an open mind and a sincere heart.

Experiencing the Country's Best Coffee – A Review of the Library Coffee + Study

Algazelus 06.27.23 The latest addition to the list of famed coffee shops in the city of Zamboanga is no other than the Library Coffee + Study . This particular coffee shop is remarkable for providing both coffee and study services. On one end, they have separate rooms perfect for group study, and on the other, an array of ample space for individuals who prefer some peace and quiet while they study. Recently, I visited the Library Coffee + Study to have a sip of their specialty coffee and learn more about the character of this place. Prior to my visit, however, I was told that they serve an array of coffees ranging from iced cappuccino to hot Americano. My thirst for hot Americano, however, was long overdue and I was eager to take a seat and dig in. I have tasted several americanos in a range of coffee shops, if I may add, and this particular experience promised to bruise my expectations. It turns out, the barista who served me informed me that they use imported arabica coffee bea...

"Finally, after all these years of experience working in the field of humanitarianism and peacebuilding, and creating a space for duty bearers to participate in crafting community-based approaches to strengthening peace, security and promoting social cohesion, these are some of the fruits to harvest. This opportunity offered by Watsons is incredible. I am more passionate and have the courage to do more." I am thrilled to announce that I have been selected for the 2024 Western Union Foundation Fellowship, thanks to the efforts of the Watson Institute ! The application process was a mix of excitement and struggle. I had doubts about being accepted and shortlisted. Even during the final interview, although I felt some relief, I still had lingering doubts about my chances, especially considering I was competing with applicants from all over the world. Just give a brief background: Out of 2900 applications from around the world, only 30 people were selected for this cohort, r...

BATTLE OF JOLO: WHAT HAPPENED LAST FEBRUARY 7, 1974

BATTLE OF JOLO - FEBRUARY 7, 1974: OUR NARRATIVE Algazelus This is our narrative. February 7, 1974, is a date that is etched in the minds of every Tausug, including myself, as a crucial turning point in our history. It marks the day when the town of Jolo, in Sulu, was burned down by government forces as part of their fight against the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF). As a Tausug from Sulu, this event is not just a distant memory but a reality that still haunts us today. Despite being born years after the burning of Jolo, I have grown up listening to stories of the event from my elders and reading about it in history books. But it wasn’t until I reached adulthood that I fully understood the significance and impact of what happened on that fateful day. The burning of Jolo, also known as the siege of Jolo, was a military confrontation between the MNLF and the government of the Philippines. The MNLF, led by Nur Misuari, was fighting for the self-determination of the Bangsamoro people...
