Day 1: The Beginning of Our Spiritual Journey

Algazelus's Letter To Self
12.March.2024 Ramadan Day 1

Assalamu alaykum Dear self,

As the crescent moon appears in the sky, it marks the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan. A month that holds a special place in the hearts of Muslims all around the world. It is a time of spiritual rejuvenation, self-reflection, and self-improvement. As we embark on this month-long journey, I want to take some time to reflect on 30 aspects of life that we can improve during this blessed time.

Ramadan is not just about abstaining from food and water; it is much more than that. It is a month of transformation, a month to better ourselves and become closer to Allah. It is an opportunity to reach out to our inner selves and reflect on our purpose in life. So, dear self, let us make the most of this month and focus on these aspects to emerge as better individuals.

Day 1 of Ramadan is the beginning of our spiritual journey. It is the day to strengthen our faith and reconnect with our beliefs. This month reminds us to pause and reflect on our connection with Allah. Let us take this opportunity to increase our knowledge of Islam. Let us dive deeper into the teachings of the Quran and understand its meaning. It is the month of the Quran, and we must read and reflect on its verses.

In addition to reading the Quran, let us also engage in acts of worship such as prayer, dua, and charity. Praying Taraweeh prayers at night is a beautiful way to connect with Allah and seek forgiveness for our sins. Let us not forget the power of dua, a direct connection with Allah, where we can ask for our desires and seek guidance. Moreover, Ramadan is also a time to be charitable and give back to those in need. Let us remember to be kind and generous towards our fellow brothers and sisters.

Dear self, as we focus on strengthening our relationship with Allah in the first few days of Ramadan, let us also work on strengthening our relationship with our family and friends. Ramadan is a month of togetherness and community, and what better way to reflect this than by strengthening the bonds with our loved ones? Let us reach out to our family and friends, forgive any misunderstandings, and strengthen our relationships.

Furthermore, let us also focus on self-improvement during this month. Ramadan is an opportunity to break old habits, form new ones and become better versions of ourselves. Prioritize self-care this month, both physically and mentally. Let us make healthy food choices, stay hydrated, and get enough rest. Additionally, let us also work on our character. Let us strive to be more patient, kind, and compassionate towards others, just as our Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was.

Dear self, let us make the most of these 30 days and emerge as better individuals. Let us remember to strengthen our faith, reconnect with loved ones, and focus on self-improvement. May Allah accept our prayers and bless us with the countless rewards of Ramadan.

Ramadan Mubarak dear self!

Love,

Your soul

Experiencing the Country's Best Coffee – A Review of the Library Coffee + Study

Algazelus 06.27.23 The latest addition to the list of famed coffee shops in the city of Zamboanga is no other than the Library Coffee + Study . This particular coffee shop is remarkable for providing both coffee and study services. On one end, they have separate rooms perfect for group study, and on the other, an array of ample space for individuals who prefer some peace and quiet while they study. Recently, I visited the Library Coffee + Study to have a sip of their specialty coffee and learn more about the character of this place. Prior to my visit, however, I was told that they serve an array of coffees ranging from iced cappuccino to hot Americano. My thirst for hot Americano, however, was long overdue and I was eager to take a seat and dig in. I have tasted several americanos in a range of coffee shops, if I may add, and this particular experience promised to bruise my expectations. It turns out, the barista who served me informed me that they use imported arabica coffee bea...

Mindanao and Sulu Archipelago: Home To A Diverse Farming And Fishing Industry

Algazelus 06.11.22 Thesis Statement: In the past few decades, the economy of the Muslim-inhabited Sulu Archipelago of the Philippines has been severely affected by climate change, deforestation, armed conflict, and the influx of foreign corporate-run fishing vessels. This has led to a decrease in the resources available to sustain their traditional coffee farming and fish harvesting industries, severely limiting the economic activities of the people living there and putting their livelihoods at risk. The Sulu Archipelago of the Philippines is home to a diverse farming and fishing industry. For the last few decades, the main source of income for the Muslim communities that inhabit these islands are coffee farming and fish harvesting and culturing. Despite their importance, these industries have been affected by various issues that have had a major impact on the lives of the people who depend on them. In today’s world, farmers and fish harvesting in Mindanao and the Sulu Archipelag...

BATTLE OF JOLO: WHAT HAPPENED LAST FEBRUARY 7, 1974

BATTLE OF JOLO - FEBRUARY 7, 1974: OUR NARRATIVE Algazelus This is our narrative. February 7, 1974, is a date that is etched in the minds of every Tausug, including myself, as a crucial turning point in our history. It marks the day when the town of Jolo, in Sulu, was burned down by government forces as part of their fight against the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF). As a Tausug from Sulu, this event is not just a distant memory but a reality that still haunts us today. Despite being born years after the burning of Jolo, I have grown up listening to stories of the event from my elders and reading about it in history books. But it wasn’t until I reached adulthood that I fully understood the significance and impact of what happened on that fateful day. The burning of Jolo, also known as the siege of Jolo, was a military confrontation between the MNLF and the government of the Philippines. The MNLF, led by Nur Misuari, was fighting for the self-determination of the Bangsamoro people...
