Obtaining knowledge of the Creator and our purpose in life are not stagnant processes, but rather they are ever-changing and developing. Those on this journey can find solace in the beauty of this path. It is not an easy journey, but it is one worth taking. Life’s treasures are not easily attained and must be earned through hard work and dedication.

As Muslims, we must strive to stay passionate and curious in order to further ourselves along this journey. It is truly incredible to witness the growth of the ummah and the amazing impact it has had on the lives of so many individuals, predominantly Muslims. Through this journey, individuals are pushed to challenge their beliefs and develop a better understanding of life and its true purpose. This journey is difficult and often filled with unique obstacles but is absolutely worth pursuing. And, as seen throughout the world, those who make it through are beacons of light, inspiration, and of hope in our transient world.

At times, it is humbling and incredibly mesmerizing to witness the growth of the ummah and the development of the Muslims who are in pursuit of knowledge unto Allah. I truly find it beautiful to see such individuals striving to make sense of life and the gifts bestowed upon them.

The process of slowly attaining knowledge and becoming enlightened is incredibly inspiring. It is like a vine, growing slowly from its first bud, eventually reaching the top of a building, impacting everything in its way. Despite the difficulties, this journey is truly rewarding.

Keeping the flame alive for the next generation. It is nourishing to see the changes such individuals undergo and the courage and dedication they display in this paradigm of knowledge. As these individuals grow, the people around them benefit as knowledge is being passed on to others and a bond of understanding is appreciated among them. The path to true enlightenment is not always easy, but it is most certainly worthwhile.

Difficult and confusing moments may arise, but the journey is worth the reward. With a thirst for knowledge and a burning desire for growth, Muslims around the world are contributing to the development of the ummah one step at a time. Much like a growing vine, each individual builds upon and supports the foundation of the ummah, and with their strength and dedication their understanding and knowledge will ultimately improve the state of our world.

Allahuak Akbar!

Experiencing the Country's Best Coffee – A Review of the Library Coffee + Study

Algazelus 06.27.23 The latest addition to the list of famed coffee shops in the city of Zamboanga is no other than the Library Coffee + Study . This particular coffee shop is remarkable for providing both coffee and study services. On one end, they have separate rooms perfect for group study, and on the other, an array of ample space for individuals who prefer some peace and quiet while they study. Recently, I visited the Library Coffee + Study to have a sip of their specialty coffee and learn more about the character of this place. Prior to my visit, however, I was told that they serve an array of coffees ranging from iced cappuccino to hot Americano. My thirst for hot Americano, however, was long overdue and I was eager to take a seat and dig in. I have tasted several americanos in a range of coffee shops, if I may add, and this particular experience promised to bruise my expectations. It turns out, the barista who served me informed me that they use imported arabica coffee bea...

Mindanao and Sulu Archipelago: Home To A Diverse Farming And Fishing Industry

Algazelus 06.11.22 Thesis Statement: In the past few decades, the economy of the Muslim-inhabited Sulu Archipelago of the Philippines has been severely affected by climate change, deforestation, armed conflict, and the influx of foreign corporate-run fishing vessels. This has led to a decrease in the resources available to sustain their traditional coffee farming and fish harvesting industries, severely limiting the economic activities of the people living there and putting their livelihoods at risk. The Sulu Archipelago of the Philippines is home to a diverse farming and fishing industry. For the last few decades, the main source of income for the Muslim communities that inhabit these islands are coffee farming and fish harvesting and culturing. Despite their importance, these industries have been affected by various issues that have had a major impact on the lives of the people who depend on them. In today’s world, farmers and fish harvesting in Mindanao and the Sulu Archipelag...

BATTLE OF JOLO: WHAT HAPPENED LAST FEBRUARY 7, 1974

BATTLE OF JOLO - FEBRUARY 7, 1974: OUR NARRATIVE Algazelus This is our narrative. February 7, 1974, is a date that is etched in the minds of every Tausug, including myself, as a crucial turning point in our history. It marks the day when the town of Jolo, in Sulu, was burned down by government forces as part of their fight against the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF). As a Tausug from Sulu, this event is not just a distant memory but a reality that still haunts us today. Despite being born years after the burning of Jolo, I have grown up listening to stories of the event from my elders and reading about it in history books. But it wasn’t until I reached adulthood that I fully understood the significance and impact of what happened on that fateful day. The burning of Jolo, also known as the siege of Jolo, was a military confrontation between the MNLF and the government of the Philippines. The MNLF, led by Nur Misuari, was fighting for the self-determination of the Bangsamoro people...
